Supporting maths at home
The following videos are examples of the written methods and mental strategies that children should understand by the end of the year group. It is essential that children should understand all concepts and methods from previous year groups before beginning to learn new ones in order to gain strong conceptual understanding. Secure understanding can be shown through children explaining what is happening at each stage of the process. These videos are intended to help parents support their children at home after the work children have done in school to learn and understand the concepts and associated methods. Please do not move ahead to topics that have not yet been covered in your child’s year group or to concepts in later year groups. The games identified also provide further opportunities to practise key concepts.
