At Damers, our Year 1 curriculum is carefully designed to provide a smooth transition from the Early Years while fostering curiosity, creativity and a love of learning. Children learn through a blend of exciting curriculum topics, high-quality texts and purposeful play, with Continuous Provision available both in the classroom and in our dedicated Year 1 outdoor learning area. This enables pupils to explore, investigate, create and apply their learning in meaningful ways throughout the day. Alongside these opportunities, children spend regular time at their tutor table, where they work closely with the class teacher on more structured reading, writing and mathematics activities tailored to their needs. Through this balance of play-based exploration and focused teaching, pupils develop independence, confidence and key knowledge and skills across the curriculum, supported by memorable experiences, educational visits and hands-on learning opportunities.
